February 17, 2011

Two Tangos for soprano saxophone and strings, A. Piazzolla (arr. Ashu).

The season continues on February 17 when we are joined by an amazing young saxophonist who goes simply by the name Ashu. Ashu has won just about every saxophone competition and you won't want to miss his stunning performance as he makes his Montreal début with the MCO. He will perform the Glazunov concerto for alto saxophone and Two Tangos by Astor Piazzolla featuring the soprano saxophone.

Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra, T. Dun.

The season will close on June 16 when we are delighted to be collaborating with Liu Fang, the "Paganini of the pipa". The pipa is a Chinese lute and Ms. Fang will be performing the dramatic Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra by Tan Dun (composer of the soundtrack for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
