last update August 15, 2010. Oboe Concerto, AV144, R. Strauss. Our Laureates Concert Series begins on November 4, when we will feature oboe virtuoso Tamàs Balla. His performance with us is part of the 1st prize of the Audi-Mozart Competition in Italy which he won in 2008. Two Tangos for soprano saxophone and strings, A. Piazzolla (arr. Ashu). The season continues on February 17 when we are joined by an amazing young saxophonist who goes simply by the name Ashu. Ashu has won just about every saxophone competition and you won't want to miss his stunning performance as he makes his Montreal début with the MCO. He will perform the Glazunov concerto for alto saxophone and Two Tangos by Astor Piazzolla featuring the soprano saxophone. Les Illuminations, op.18, B. Britten. Our next concert, April 7, with guest soprano Kristin Mueller-Heaslip. Kristin's performance with us is part of the 1st prize in the Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition in Manitoba which she won in 2008. Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra, T. Dun. The season will close on June 16, when we are delighted to be collaborating with Liu Fang, the "Paganini of the pipa". The pipa is a Chinese lute and Ms. Fang will be performing the dramatic Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra by Tan Dun (composer of the soundtrack for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). She will also perform some traditional Chinese repertoire for the pipa and will talk about the instrument.
