Laureates Concert Series

Laureates Concert Series

Committed to being an orchestra of discovery, the MCO's Laureates Concert Series seeks out soloists who have achieved worldwide recognition by winning international music competitions. Canada's Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition, the CBC National Competition, the Prague Spring International Competition, the Audi Mozart International Wind Competition in Italy, the Geneva International Music Competition, Korea's Dong-A International Violin Competition, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Naumberg International Violin Competition, the 's-Hertogenbosch International Voice Competition in Holland, the Tchaikowsky Piano Competition, the Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition, and the Dutch National Violoncello Competition are just some of the competitions with whom we have collaborated over the years.

Through this series, the Montreal Chamber Orchestra's public is able to be the first to discover these extraordinary new talents, many of whom have made their Canadian début on the MCO's stage. Programming for the Laureates Series combines well-known works, classics that are not often played, and Canadian repertoire so that, again, we hope that you will discover some new repertoire in each concert experience. This season, we are particularly excited to be performing the world première of Flute Concerto by awarding-winning Canadian composer Jim McGrath in our October concert - a discovery that no one should miss! The Flute Concerto was written for the MCO and flutist Leslie Newman. It is also featured on the MCO's new CD Cinématique which is available on the MCO's website.

Proud sponsors of this season's Laureates Concert Series are IBM, Roche Diagnostics, Bell, Osler Hoskin & Harcourt, Ogilvy Renault, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Emergis and the Music Performance Fund.
