Described by the Boston Globe as “a model of taste and tonal refinement” and the New York Times as “vigorous and colourful”, our invited violinist Nikki Chooi will perform Beethoven’s Concerto for violin in D Major, op. 61, one of the most important works of the violin concerto repertoire. Nikki Chooi has won numerous competitions including Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2012 and First prizewinner of the OSM Standard Life Competition 2004. At 20 years of age, he was the youngest musician to have won the Canada Council for the Arts’ Musical Bank Instrument Competition which awarded him the loan of the 1729 Guarneri del Gesù for 3 years (2009-2012); he currently uses the 1700 Taft Stradivarius. This performance marks Nikki Chooi’s first appearance with the Montreal Chamber Orchestra.
